What is seolleongtang?

Seolleongtang is a Korean bone soup made from boiling ox bones, brisket and other cuts. At Gahwa, we continuously boil our broth 24/7, 365 days a year, and in return, the broth develops a very rich, almost milky consistency. Yum.

Why does my seolleongtang taste bland?

If you didn’t grow up in a Korean household, we completely understand.

Seolleongtang aka oxtail bone soup is normally served without salt and it is up to the customer to season the broth to their liking. As you sit at a restaurant with seolleongtang in front of you, look around the table and there will be a little pot with salt. Add generously. The green onions and black pepper are optional, but salt is a must! Enjoy.

There isn’t one method. Me, personally? I like to put all of my rice into the soup, and then add salt.

are the waiters/waitresses ignoring me?

In western culture, it is considered very rude to wave your hands or call out to a server from across the room. However, in Korean culture, this is the way it is done. In Korean culture, servers will leave you alone to eat your meal in peace and quiet without interruption until you let them know that you need something. Just raise your hand and say, “excuse me” or in Korean, “저기요!”, pronounced jug-ee-yuh.

do you accept cash or card?

We accept both cash and credit card.

is there parking available?

Yes, there is free parking behind the restaurant in a large parking lot. There are 2 entrances into the lot on the same street as the entrance. You can’t miss it.
